The update is live. BGMI 4.0 is here, and my phone is finally done downloading it. Krafton is calling it the ‘Spooky Soiree,’ and sure, there are some Halloween decorations and a ghost buddy. But that’s not what we need to talk about.
I’ve been playing this game since the beginning, and I’ve seen a lot of updates. Some are great. Some are forgettable. The real question is always the same: will this actually change how we play the game and get that chicken dinner? This time, I think the answer is hidden inside one new, explosive item.
The Real Star: A Mortar in Your Pocket
Forget everything else for a second. Let’s talk about the new throwable Mortar.
This is a big deal. For years, the end game in BGMI has been about a few things: good positioning, smoke grenades, and a steady aim. Breaking a well-defended squad holed up in a building has been a nightmare. You push, you throw some frags, and you hope for the best.
The Mortar changes that entire calculation. It’s a single-use, throwable weapon that drops shells on a target area. Think of it as your personal, portable red zone. A team camping on a roof? A squad hiding behind a ridge? Now you have a direct counter. It’s a tool made specifically to punish campers, and I am so here for it.
So, Is It Broken?
This is the million-rupee question. A weapon that can rain fire from the sky sounds incredibly overpowered. My squad and I are already brainstorming tactics. One player spots, the other lobs the Mortar, and the other two push when the shells hit. It could make the final circles absolute chaos.
But it’s a single-use item, which is a smart bit of balancing. You have to choose the perfect moment to use it. Waste it, and you’ve lost a huge advantage. This thing is going to create some amazing highlight clips, but it’s also going to cause a lot of rage when you get wiped out by it. We’ll have to see if Krafton needs to nerf it in a few weeks.
Okay, What Else Is New?
Honestly, the other stuff feels like fun window dressing compared to the Mortar. It’s cool, but I don’t think it will win you the game.
New BGMI 4.0 Features: Game-Changer or Gimmick?
| Feature | My Verdict | Why? |
| Throwable Mortar | Game-Changer | It completely changes how you attack entrenched squads in the final circles. |
| ‘Ghostie’ Companion | Gimmick | It’s a cute ghost that follows you around. Fun, but it’s just a cosmetic pet. |
| Vehicle Updates | Minor Tweak | The UAZ and Dacia get some new looks. It’s nice, but won’t affect gameplay. |
| Weapon Balancing | Minor Tweak | Small adjustments to the M16A4 and Mk47. Only die-hard players will notice. |
The new “Ghostie” companion is exactly what it sounds like. A little ghost floats next to you. You can upgrade it, but at the end of the day, it’s a cosmetic pet. It’s cute, but it’s not going to help you in a 1v4 clutch situation.
The spooky theme is also fine. Erangel will have some Halloween decorations, which is a nice seasonal touch. But after a few matches, it’ll just be background noise. It’s all about the gameplay, and the theme doesn’t change that.
So, should you be excited about the 4.0 update? Yes. But don’t get distracted by the ghosts and ghouls. Focus on finding that new Mortar and figuring out how to use it before everyone else does. That’s what will really make a difference on the battlegrounds.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some campers to hunt.
